The words are petulant and childish, but something clenches in Jiang Cheng’s heart. He shoves whatever feeling that is down, and steels himself for a lecture on the responsibilities of a young man, of an heir, “A-Ling-”
His nephew stands up abruptly, turning for the door, “It doesn’t matter what you say, Jiujiu,” He throws over his shoulder, uncharacteristically quiet and flat for words of defiance spoken from this particular mouth. He sounds tired, far too tired for a teenager. It reminds Jiang Cheng of himself, during the war. After it. “I’m not going back.”
