Things go alright, all things considered, until a month later.“Hold your arms in front of your chest, like A-Cheng was,” He obeys, and she places the tiny copy of himself in the cradle of his arms, grasping his hand and moving it gently until it’s supporting the baby’s head, “Like that, there you go.”
She steps back, and he bounces the infant in his arms a little bit, “Hello, Xiao-Ling.” It comes out almost low enough to be a whisper. He’s so small, dwarfed by Jin Ling’s arms and chest and hands, a tiny little thing, delicate and precious. He wonders if it’s narcissistic to think he’s cute. He is very cute though. Jin Ling shifts his hold, maneuvering until the tiny babe is resting just along one arm, one big hand holding his butt and legs, his little head resting on his upper arm. His other arm cages him in along his side, and his free hand touches his little chubby cheeks, “What a cute little treasure. You look just like your parents.” He glances up at Yanli and she just smiles encouragingly at them both.
